The EAA Ray Aviation Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program that is funded by the Ray Foundation, managed by EAA, and administered through the EAA Chapters network. Through the generous support of the Ray Foundation, EAA provides up to $12,000 to deserving youths to help cover their flight training expenses, totaling $2,250,000 in annual scholarship funding.

Eligibility and Requirements

    1. Age 16-19 for powered flight training. (Must reach their 17th birthday prior to Feb 28, 2027).
    2. Age 15-19 for glider training. (Must reach their 17th birthday prior to Feb 28, 2027).
    3. Possession (or ability to possess) an FAA 3rd Class medical. (A history of ADHD medications may greatly delay the medical process.)
    4. Resident of Indian River County.
    5. Received at least one Young Eagles Flight.
    6. Able to begin flight training within 30 days of the award.
    7. Read, comprehend, and agree with the Ray Scholar Handbook. (Note this is the 2025 handbook. The 2026 is still in production. There are a few minor changes.)
    8. Complete in-person interviews May 11 through May 28, 2026.

Once Selected

    1. Partake in 2 hours per month of chapter volunteer service.
    2. Have a monthly chapter check in with progress reports.
    3. Complete the following milestones:
    • 3 months to first solo.
    • 6 months to pass written exam.
    • 12 months to pass checkride.

How to Apply

    1. Applications must be submitted via the online application form.
    2. A printed copy of the application for your review and preparation can be downloaded here.
    3. Upload supporting documents (personal statement and letter of recommendation) via the online application.
    4. Application must be completed by April 30, 2026.
    5. The chapter committee will confirm receipt of your application and notify you if selected for an interview.  After the interviews, the recipient will be selected.
